Thank you for taking an interest in my efforts and my station.
The current version of this station uses the following dedicated 24/7/365 equipment:
- Icom IC-718 HF Transceiver
- MFJ-991 auto-tuner
- 450-foot non-resonant NVIS HF loop
- The antenna feed-point uses a 4:1 balun made of stacked FT-114/43 toroids and RG-316 coax in a CanTex enclosure
- Dedicated Dell Optiplex 960 computer using Windows 7 64-bit
- SignaLink USB soundcard interface
The station has a dedicated 400KVA UPS, 6 Kilowatt stand-by gasoline generator and 100 watts of solar panel backup power. For Oregon Army MARS I have operated dedicated gateway equipment since 2002. The initial equipment then used the old Classic BBS software using a dedicated PacTor-I PK-232 Terminal Unit with daily mail-runs to AAA9USA.
Secondarily, I am developing mobile HF capabilities with a dedicated Motorola Micom/Mobat 2ETS HF ALE radio, MFJ-991 auto-tuner, DC-blocking antenna interface and AT-271 multi-section HF whip for HF Mobile-at-rest as time for testing permits. Ultimate goal is both voice and digital modes with the mobile station.
My $DAYJOB$ is as the IT Compliance Engineer for Spirit Mountain Casino here in Oregon. I'm responsible for the Federal/State regulatory compliance and integrity of more than 8,000 devices in a networked environment with no tolerance for downtime operating continuously since 1995. I began my professional IT career back in the early 80's with administrative duties for DEC VAX 11/780, HP-2000, Sun, Apollo and HP3000 super minicomputers in California's Silicon valley.

Hi All,
It might be feasible to use a hobby drone as a antenna pole or digipeater support with the latest advances in the drone hobby.
Some of them are getting less expensive and more powerful.
Could also be used as aerial TV platform over a disaster area in the same time.
Something else for the go-kit ?

Hi All,
RMS Express version 1.3.7.3 adds the IridiumGO connection option to Winlink.
IridiumGO rental and data plans are becoming less expensive.
An external commercial antenna for the IridiumGO is recommended, or maybe some home brew version for 1.6 GHz.
Receiving satellites is easy nowadays.
See this contact via AMSAT SO-50, using a home brew antenna.
2m and 70cm.
The satellite flies over 90 minutes apart, 3 times in the morning or evening (give or take).
Some of the 66 Iridium satellites are overhead 24/7.
The object is to maintain a 5 bar Iridium satellite signal (on your smartphone app) to achieve a high data thruput for Winlink.
Notice how he twists the antenna to achieve better polarization.
Just another tool in your Winlink toolbox.

Hi All,
Please note there is a new Pactor and WINMOR RMS in Brazil.
PY4LF
His CENTER frequencies are:
7.040
10.150
14.113
21.119 MHz
His callsign and these frequencies can be entered manually into Airmail or RMS Express.
You can also update your Pactor and Winmor channel lists via the Internet to have his station show up.
Please test with and support this very important new Winlink RMS for all amateur radio sailors in your area.
Best 73,
Bernard

I have my VHF node back up in operation. I upgraded from a Yaesu FT-60R (5W) to a Yaesu FT-2900R (set at 25W) connected to a Kantronics KPC-9612+ (v8.1) on port1 at 1200 baud.
I have had PBBS connections to another PBBS (FBBS9:N4YXW via FARA7:W4VA-5) on my Kantronics KPC-9612+ about 23 miles away, now I am trying to get both PBBS and WL2K functional on this VHF node. I am told it will work, if you have a similar setup with a KPC-9612+ -please- contact me!
I need WL2K testers on my VHF node, the 40M HF node is doing fine.

Continuing FMRE support for Winlink, system # 5 is being built. XE3N
Money comes from Mexico's FMRE, (like ARRL).
All will be battery powered and Hybrid operation.
We thank XE3N and the amateurs of Cancun Mexico for finding a reliable location.
And to XE1VP for the vision to continue the network.

RMS K7GJT will be off the air from 12/20/2015 for a new roof on the house and an antenna change.
I'm taking advantage of the downtime and changing antenna from a G5RV to a Tennadyne TD-65.

Today (December 30, 2015), RMS HB9AK got an additional "SCS Tracker". It is connected to the 40/80m TRX and provides Robust Packet Mode for those bands.
The ICOM IC-718 that was responsible for 30m communication has been replaced with a KENWOOD TS-590SG.
HB9AK is running 4 TRX (TS-590S for 40/80m, TS-590SG for 30m, FT-1000MP for 20m, TS-590S for 17/15m), supporting PACTOR 1-4 and WINMOR on 80/40/20/17/15m, PACTOR 1-2 and WINMOR500 on 30m, and Robust Packet on 80/40/30/20m.
The picture shows some of HB9AK's antennas: Versatower (18m) with Vertical AV-620 for 20m, the fan dipole for 80/40m and the fan dipole for 15/17m.
